Need a barcode right now? QRhubly's free barcode generator runs in your browser, supports every major format, and downloads your barcode as PNG or SVG — no account, no email, no payment. Done.

What you can generate for free

The generator supports all the major 1D barcode formats plus QR codes:

  • Code 128 — general purpose; works for almost everything from inventory to shipping
  • EAN-13 — standard retail barcode used across Europe and globally
  • UPC-A — standard retail barcode used in the US and Canada
  • Code 39 — alphanumeric, common in industrial and government use
  • EAN-8 — compact retail barcode for small packaging
  • ITF (Interleaved 2 of 5) — logistics and outer carton labels
  • QR codes — URLs, text, contact cards, WiFi credentials — anything a phone camera should read

All of these are free. No watermark. No daily limit.

Step-by-step: make a barcode in 30 seconds

  1. Go to qrhubly.com/barcode-generator
  2. Select your barcode type from the dropdown
  3. Type in your data — a number, text, or URL depending on the type
  4. The live preview updates as you type
  5. Click download — choose PNG or SVG

That is it. No email confirmation. No account wall. No "start your free trial" popup.

Need a QR code instead of a traditional 1D barcode? Switch the type to QR code in the same tool — everything else works the same way.

Free vs paid: what is the difference?

Everything on the barcode generator is free. Here is exactly what that means:

Free forever — no sign-up:

  • All 1D barcodes: Code 128, EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 39, EAN-8, ITF, and more
  • Static QR codes (the destination is fixed when you generate it)
  • PNG download
  • SVG download
  • Unlimited — generate as many as you need

Pro feature — 7-day free trial:

  • Dynamic QR codes — change the destination URL after printing without regenerating the code
  • Scan analytics — see how many times a QR code was scanned, where, and on what device
  • Short-link redirects on your QR codes

If you are making barcodes for product labels, inventory stickers, or shipping documents, you do not need Pro. Everything you need is free.

If you are printing QR codes for a marketing campaign — on posters, packaging, or business cards — dynamic codes let you update where they point without reprinting. That is the main reason to upgrade.

Barcode FAQ

Is it really free — no catch?
Yes. Static barcodes and static QR codes are free to generate and download. No account required, no watermark, no time limit.

Can I use the barcode commercially?
Yes. Barcodes you generate here are yours. Use them on product labels, internal documents, tickets, shipping labels — whatever you need.

Do I need a GS1 number?
Only if you are selling products through major retail chains. EAN-13 and UPC-A barcodes at retail are expected to use a registered GS1 prefix. For internal inventory, warehouse use, or non-retail products, any number works.

What is the difference between a barcode and a QR code?
A traditional 1D barcode (the striped kind) holds a short string of digits or characters and is designed for dedicated scanners at retail checkouts, warehouses, and logistics operations. A QR code is a 2D format that holds much more data and is designed to be read by a smartphone camera. Use 1D barcodes when the reader is a scanner; use QR codes when the reader is a phone.

For a full comparison of barcode types with use cases, see: Free Barcode Generator Online: Create Any Barcode in Seconds.

What format should I download?
PNG for most uses — labels, Word documents, online listings, or print-at-home. SVG if you are sending to a printer or need to scale without any quality loss.

Does the barcode expire?
No. Static barcodes and static QR codes do not expire. Dynamic QR codes stay active as long as your Pro subscription is active.

What if my barcode will not scan?
Check three things: (1) enough contrast — black bars on white, never the reverse on a coloured background; (2) large enough — aim for at least 25 mm wide when printed; (3) quiet zone — leave blank space on either side of the bars.
