Designing QR codes

How to add a logo to a QR code

Add a center logo to your QR code in QRhubly while keeping it scannable. Covers file types, sizing, and the error-correction reason it works.

How to add a logo to a QR code

A center logo turns a generic QR code into a branded one. QRhubly lets you drop a logo into the middle of the code, and thanks to QR error correction it still scans — if you size it sensibly.

Steps

  1. In the generator, open the logo/image option.
  2. Upload your logo as a PNG (transparent background looks best) or SVG.
  3. It's placed in the center of the code automatically.
  4. Keep it modest in size (see below), then test the scan.

Why a logo doesn't break the code

QR codes include Reed–Solomon error correction. At the highest correction level, roughly 30% of the code can be obscured or damaged and the data still recovers. A center logo covers a small fraction of that budget, so the code keeps working. (More on this: QR error correction explained.)

Sizing rules of thumb

  • Keep the logo to roughly the center 15–25% of the code's width.
  • Don't cover any of the three corner eyes — scanners need those to orient.
  • Leave a little clear padding around the logo so it doesn't bleed into the dots.
  • Bigger isn't better: the larger the logo, the less error-correction budget remains for real-world wear, low light, and odd scan angles.

File types

  • PNG — best for logos with transparency; widely compatible.
  • SVG — vector, stays crisp at any size; ideal if you'll print large.

Test before you commit

After adding the logo, scan the final code with two or three phones (iOS + Android) at a normal distance. If any phone hesitates, shrink the logo, raise the contrast, or simplify the logo's detail.

FAQ

My code won't scan after adding the logo — what happened? The logo is probably too large or overlapping the eyes, or contrast dropped. Shrink it and keep it centered. See Why did my QR code stop working?.

Can I put the logo somewhere other than the center? Center placement is safest and is what QRhubly uses — off-center logos risk covering data or eyes.

Will a colored logo affect scanning? Only if it reduces contrast against the dots around it. Keep the surrounding dots high-contrast.
