How to make a WiFi QR code

Create a WiFi QR code so guests connect to your network by scanning — no typing the password. Covers SSID, password, and security type.

How to make a WiFi QR code

A WiFi QR code lets anyone join your network by scanning it — no reading out the password, no typos. Perfect for cafes, offices, rentals, and guest networks.

Steps

  1. In the generator, choose the WiFi type.
  2. Enter your network name (SSID) exactly as it appears, including capitalization.
  3. Enter the password.
  4. Choose the security type (usually WPA/WPA2; pick "None" only for open networks).
  5. Style and download the code, then print and display it.

When someone scans it, their phone offers to join the network automatically.

Where to put it

  • A small card or table tent in a cafe or waiting room
  • A frame in a holiday rental or guest room
  • A sticker near the router or reception desk
  • A slide at an event or workshop

Static is fine here

A WiFi code is a great candidate for a static code — the network details rarely change, you don't need analytics, and a static code works forever with no account. If your password rotates often, consider a dynamic code so you can update it without reprinting.

Tips

  • Double-check the SSID and password for exact spelling and case — WiFi credentials are case-sensitive.
  • Hidden network? Some phones still need the network selected manually; a visible SSID scans most reliably.
  • Print it large enough to scan from arm's length, and keep the quiet-zone margin.

FAQ

Does this work on iPhone and Android? Modern iOS and Android both support joining WiFi from a scanned QR code via the camera.

Is my password stored on your servers? For a static WiFi code, the details are encoded into the image in your browser — nothing is sent to us. For a dynamic code, the redirect is managed in your account.

Can guests see the password? The code contains the credentials so phones can connect; treat the printed card like you'd treat sharing the password. For sensitive networks, use a separate guest network.
