AI-art QR codes that still scan
Generate artistic, image-blended QR codes in QRhubly using your own Replicate token (BYOK), and why they remain scannable.
AI-art QR codes that still scan
QRhubly's AI Image feature turns a plain QR code into artwork — a landscape, a texture, a branded scene — while keeping it scannable. It's a Pro feature that runs on your own Replicate API token (BYOK = bring your own key).
How it works
The feature uses an AI image model (a ControlNet QR model) that paints an image around and through the QR structure while preserving the parts a scanner needs — the finder eyes, contrast, and enough module structure that error correction can recover the data. The result looks like art but still scans.
Setup (BYOK)
- Be on a Pro plan.
- Create a Replicate account and generate an API token.
- In QRhubly, open your account's API section and connect your Replicate token.
- Use the AI Image option, describe the look you want, and generate.
Because it's your token, the small per-image cost (typically a few cents) is billed to your Replicate account, not ours — you stay in control of usage and spend.
Tips for scannable art
- Keep the prompt from overwhelming the eyes and high-contrast structure — busy, low-contrast art is the main reason an AI QR fails.
- Favor compositions with clear light/dark separation where the code sits.
- Test every generated code on two or three phones before using it. Regenerate if any phone hesitates.
- Use a dynamic code underneath if you want to track scans or change the destination later.
When to use it
AI-art QR codes shine on packaging, posters, album/podcast art, event collateral, and anywhere a generic black-and-white code would look out of place. For purely functional spots (a WiFi card, a receipt), a clean standard code is faster and more reliable.
FAQ
Why BYOK instead of built-in generation? Bringing your own Replicate token keeps costs transparent and on your account, and lets you generate freely without us marking up image costs.
Do AI QR codes scan as reliably as plain ones? They can, but they have less margin — always test. A plain high-contrast code is the most bulletproof; art trades a little resilience for looks.
Is it available on the free plan? No — AI Image is a Pro feature. See Plans, trials & limits.
